The idea for the Lokaway design began after a sales trip, on a flight from Sydney to Melbourne in 2002. CEO and Founder Brett Dunstan, which has been involved in the gun safe business in various iterations since 1989. With a background in engineering and an apprenticeship in fitting and turning and sheetmetal fabrication, Brett was always thinking and tinkering – and it was on this flight his thoughts turned to a new kind of locking system for safes. Jotting down some rough sketches on a napkin, Brett wondered if he was on to something big. Within 24 hours after building a sample that worked the way he thought it would, he was at the patent attorney’s office, and Lokaway was born.

Twenty years later, and while the napkin has unfortunately been lost to time, the idea has not. The innovative locking system Brett came up with on that day in October 2002 has turned into a thriving business, a key innovation in anti-pry technology that is entirely unique and in demand worldwide.
